Podcasting Changes Classrooms
Podcasting is a relatively new invention that allows anybody to publish files to the Internet where individuals can subscribe and receive new files from people by a subscription. Recently podcasting has found a unique place in school classrooms. Schools and teachers have started using podcasting as a way to record lectures so students can download and listen to them on their iPods. This is beneficial for students who miss class, learn better by listening or those who want help learning a new language.
In addition, some schools are finding that students will do better work when they have the ability to put their results on podcasts. Students have a greater excitement level and engage in their school work better when they have the ability to express themselves more freely.
At Mississippi State University last year three pilot classes started using podcasting and this fall it was increased to fourteen total classes. The school has seen an enrollment in these classes of fourteen hundred students.
Podcasting has become an excellent way for students to get lecture materials whenever they need them. This helps for studying course material as well since students can get instant access to lectures whenever they need it.
In addition, parents are starting to notice the benefits of podcasting. For busy parents who may not be able to attend certain school functions podcasting in an excellent way for them to be able to hear what their child has been doing at school during a time convenient for them.
