Differences between Podcasting and Blogging Software
There are, however, some very important differences between podcasting and blogging software. Here are some of those differences:
Podcasts need to be listened; Blogs need to be read.
A podcast may appeal to a different type of person than a blog will. For example, young people may be more likely to listen to podcasts.
Podcasts can be listened to at any time, even while the person is doing other tasks. A podcast may even be listened to while a person is writing an article!
Blogs require more concentration and the person to be focused on the task at hand.
Blogs are generally easier to use for reference purposes, as information can be highlighted and reread, as special points can be checked.
In order for a podcast to be transported, an audio player will be needed. However, most people can easily print off a blog.

It is usually easier for people to get started with blogging than it is to get started with a podcast. Starting a blog is easy and can even be done for free.
There is free blogging software and free blogging hosts available over the internet. All that is needed is a computer, a keyboard and internet access, which many people already have. People can spend money on better software and hosting facilities, but they do not need to.
It is not as easy to get started with a podcast, creating more barriers for people who wish to get started with a podcast. Most people will need to spend some money getting the right podcasting equipment and podcasting software to enable them to produce a podcast. There may also need to be some special training involved. Writing a blog is easy. All you need to do is type and write. Creating a podcast requires more work and training.
The Future of Blogging and Podcasting
Blogging and podcasting are relatively new forms of media content, but they are no doubt here to stay. They have provided a convenient and different way of getting information. Throughout history, many new forms of media content have arrived.
In no cases have they completely replaced the older forms of media content out there. The newspaper is still alive and going strong, despite the emergence of radio, magazines, television and the internet. It seems that no matter how many new forms of media arise, there is place in the world for all of them.
Blogging and podcasting will probably grow in popularity and become the main form of information for certain groups of people. However, they will probably still work alongside more traditional forms of media content and information. There will likely be an increased role for blogging and podcasting in education, particularly for those people who wish to study from home.
Blogging and podcasting are also providing a completely different method of news and information, where anyone with the relevant blogging software or podcasting equipment can make a contribution to the available content out there.
With the emergence of free blogging software, many people have already started to create their own blogs and so become part of the media and information community.
