Museum Pod casts

Museums are using pod casting to reach out to a younger generation of patrons - the iPod generation.

Museums are making their in-house audio tours of special exhibits, as well as original programming, available on their websites as pod casts, for free use on iPods and other MP3 players. And art lovers can listen through their home computers as well. There's even a newly coined term for the phenomenon - "art casting."

As a result of this trend, people all over the world can "tour", for example the latest exhibit at New York's Museum of Modern Art while they drive, go jogging or hiking! Or, an art lover can sit by his laptop and listen to a narration of a tour of the latest exhibits of a Museum of Contemporary Art.

The Boulder museum is among the first in Colorado, USA to offer pod casts. These are produced in-house, under the supervision of the associate curator.

There are over 50 museum pod casts on the Museum Pod cast Directory including the following popular ones: The Museum of Modern Art, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Bronx Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Wells Fargo Museum and the Chrysler Museum.
